How EQIP Can Help Pay for Your Brush Clearing
- The USDA's EQIP program helps landowners pay for conservation work like brush clearing, through their local NRCS office.
- Brush management (EQIP Practice 314) is an eligible practice in Texas. If your land is native rangeland with mesquite, salt cedar, juniper, or other invasive brush, you may qualify.
- NRCS sets a per-acre payment rate for your area each year. That rate covers a portion of the cost — in many cases a significant portion. Rates vary by county and change annually.
- Beginning farmers, ranchers, veterans, and other historically underserved producers may qualify for higher payment rates.
- Applications are accepted year-round at your local NRCS/USDA Service Center. There are annual cutoff dates to be considered for each funding cycle — so apply early.
- You must be approved before work begins. Starting a project before your contract is in place can disqualify you from payment.
- We’ve worked on EQIP-funded projects and understand how the process works. We’re happy to answer questions and help you think through whether it makes sense for your property.
